Star Wars Galactic Starcruiser - Details Released!

Recently, Disney released more information about the Galactic Starcruiser, a Star Wars "space cruise" experience, that is anticipated to open in Spring of 2022. Often referred to as the "Star Wars Hotel", we are learning that while this experience does involve lodging, it is not as much a hotel as it is a "cruise" which is made to look like it takes place in space.

We've already written about the Galactic Starcruiser here, so rather than revisit that information, we want to share what is new and/or confirmed by Disney.

We know you want images, so this post is swimming with concept art, all of which is originally credited to Disney and Lucasfilm.

The Experience

We now know that the experience is a 2-night experience, and while on this experience, you will not be leaving the Galactic Starcruiser except for your planetary excursion to Black Spire Outpost.

Disney also says that not only will you meet new and familiar characters from the Star Wars universe, but you will interact with them, and your choices, not only aboard the Starcruiser, but also on your planetary excursion, will shape your story. You can immerse yourself as much as you care to. While Disney will not be providing clothes, you are welcome to dress up in Star Wars clothing while on the cruise. Disney will provide a datapad which is like a wrist band, and on this device you will receive messages from characters as well that will help immerse you into the story if you wish. You can form alliances with the First Order or Rebellion, and you can switch alliances at any time.

The entire experience works very much like a cruise, with a set schedule and departure time, and assigned dining seating times. Departure is at the terminal no later than 4:00 PM, and there appears to be an early and late dining seating. You will also see the cruise theme reflected in the room types.

The Rooms

There are 100 cabins aboard the Galactic Starcruiser, in a few different classes.

  • Standard cabins - sleeps 4-5 with a queen bed and two berths (bunk beds). Also has a pull out table, a TV, and one window with a view into the galaxy.

  • Galaxy Class Suite - sleeps 4 and includes everything in the standard cabin, but also has a separate seating area, a bar area, two windows with views into the galaxy, and "a few special Star Wars extras".

  • Grand Captain Suite - Sleeps 8 with two queens, two berths, and two wall pull down beds, three windows with views into the galaxy, a seating area, two bathrooms, and "a few special Star Wars surprises".

The Dining

On the Dining page of the Galactic Starcruiser information on the Disney website, they have a rather unappetizing picture of blue shrimp over a sea of what looks like dry ice. Ew. But aesthetics aside, dining is sure to be an experience. Dishes will be themed to represent galactic cuisine, and all meals are included plus a meal at Docking Bay 7 during your planetary excursion. One of the meals sounds like it will be a formal gala experience.

Dinner will have two seatings in the main dining room. If you want to pay extra, you can even sit at the Captain's table in the center of the room and experience a few extra dishes prepared by the chef. Breakfast and Lunch can also be found and a lunch option appears to be a "build your own bento" style small plate experience. You may also have juice or soda, or blue milk. And there will be "familiar favorites from your home planet".

The Spaces in Space Aboard the Halcyon

The Halcyon (aka - the name of this particular Galactic Starcruiser) has several spaces you can enjoy during your cruise. We've already summarized the 100 cabins, the bridge, and clearly a lightsaber training area. In addition to that...

Sublight Lounge - This is where you can grab a drink and play a game of sabacc using a holographic table. Be careful, you will wager credits!

The Crown of Corella Dining Room - This appears to be where most meals are taken. During breakfast and lunch it is a small plate buffet. And during dinner, it transforms to a table service dining experience.

The Damage

As dads around America say, "What's the damage?" and I have to warn you, it is... intense. But before we talk about the damage to your wallet, let's just remind you what's all included in your cost:

  • Your 2 night cabin

  • All food and drink (except alcoholic beverages and specialty drinks, very similar to a cruise on water)

  • Constant, interactive entertainment and storytelling where your choices determine your story

  • Admission to Disney Hollywood Studios for your planetary excursion

  • Exclusive priority boarding to Rise of the Resistance and Millennium Falcon: Smuggler's Run

  • Valet parking

  • An exclusive Star Wars magic band (which serves as your datapad)

So... ready to be hit with the damage report?

Rates vary depending on number of guests per cabin and start from....

  • $4,809 for 2 guests for the entire voyage

  • $5,299 for 3 guests (two adults, one child)

  • $5,999 for 4 guests (three adults one, child)

Yeah, we had trouble breathing after we read this too. But to be fair, Disney knows, and we know too, that Star Wars will result in high demand. An experience like this is novel and for those that want to feel part of the story for 3 days/ 2 nights, this is a pretty amazing offering. Surely there will be guests who pay this much. And for the rest of us, there is at least Batuu.

And there you have it. Everything we know now about the much anticipated Galactic Starcruiser experience. It sounds... well... out of this world! What do you think? Would you pay this galactic price for this galactic experience? Tell us over on our Facebook page by commenting on this post. You can also follow us there to see when new articles become available.
