Sassy Faves: 3 Square Meals at Disney Hollywood Studios

Here we are at our final installment of the "3 Square Meals" challenge. The rules: Pick ONE park and select the best places to go for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. You can find past installments in the Dining category.

In other parks we've had a luxury of choice, and have recommended a favorite and a runner-up with the first time visitor in mind. But I have to honest, this is an extreme challenge for us when we talk about Disney Hollywood Studios. While the park and the food scene has improved in the past few years, we still feel the dining here is not on par with the other parks.

So we're going to do this a little differently by making one recommendation for each meal. If you have others, by all means, share them in the comments or over on our Facebook page by commenting on this post! We don't do a lot of eating at DHS, so maybe we are overlooking something amazing.

So now that that's settled, let's get to it!

Breakfast

We are going to recommend Woody's Lunch Box. Yes, it's called "Lunch" Box, but we can't overstate how excited we were when we heard that a key menu item at Woody's was going to be homemade pop-tarts. The kid in me really, really, wants homemade pop-tarts and what better place to be a kid than Toy Story Land?

The breakfast menu honestly looks mouth-watering for everyone. French Toast S'mores sandwich? Yes, please! Or if you have a heartier appetite, the breakfast bowl looks like it will please someone in need of meat. How about a banana split parfait for breakfast? And for dessert, a chocolate hazelnut tart or a lemon blueberry tart (I can't decide which I'd like more). And yes, you can have dessert with your breakfast. You're on vacation!

Lunch

Docking Bay 7 is our pick for lunch, though it was a difficult choice between that and Ronto Roasters which is also in Galaxy's Edge. Here's why Docking Bay 7 wins: Sporks in travel bags. Just kidding. Well, not really kidding since that is something you can purchase there, but honestly, the menu looks far from boring and brings to mind Satu'li Canteen at Disney's Animal Kingdom, which is one of our favorites.

We also like that while it has some meat-based favorites to please everyone, it also has a decent selection of plant-based meals that look satisfying, like hummus and kefta, or plant based noodle dishes. The surabat shrimp and noodle salad and the smoked kaadu pork ribs both sound delicious, and we think this is far from your normal lunch - which is a good thing!

Dinner

If you've followed us a while, you know it's no secret that we have a soft spot for 50's Prime Time Cafe. We love this spot because it has a real sense of atmosphere. The menu isn't your Michelin star material, but it fits perfectly into what you might expect when sitting down to a meal with your aunts and uncles and cousins in the 50s. We're talking amazing fried chicken, mouth watering meatloaf, pot roast... you know, the All American Home Cookin' kinds of foods we get nostalgic for. The menu is not adventurous, but what they do, they do well.

But can we turn our attention for a moment to the real hidden gem here? You see, there are lots of specialty drinks on the menu like the peanut butter and jelly shake, or a selection of specific flavored sodas... but what you may not realize is that because they have all these sodas and syrups, they can do honest to goodness soda fountain drinks. When I visited with my Dad, he got really into the atmosphere right away, and toward the end of our meal was talking to our "Aunt" (our server) and said "You know, I remember back when I was younger we used to go to the soda fountain and get chocolate sodas". Next thing you know, she's bringing him a chocolate soda, even though it's not on the menu.

You might know 50s Prime Time as the place where the server's razz you a little bit, and that's true. But this is Disney and Disney cast members know when to stop. If you get into it, they'll get into it with you. If you prefer to watch, they won't bug you too much. I certainly don't like attention being drawn to me but I had an amazing time at this place.

Those are our three picks for breakfast, lunch, and dinner at Disney Hollywood Studios. While we didn't give you 6 picks, we feel really REALLY solid that the three we recommended are going to make first time visitors happy. Did we miss anything? Do you disagree with us? Tell us about it! Until next time...
