Introducing Roundup Rodeo BBQ

Get ready for the first Toy Story themed full service restaurant in the world, opening on March 23, 2023. Roundup Rodeo BBQ is a new area of Toy Story Land at Disney Hollywood Studios. In this post, we'll tell you what we know about the theme and menu.

Tucked near the statue of Woody and a viewing area for Slinky Dog Dash, this new section of Andy's backyard has been roped off for a while during construction. The theme, of course, is Andy's new play area. This time, Andy has gathered his toys into a rodeo. When you enter this restaurant, you will become an honorary toy.

There are two rooms. One is Jesse and Trixie themed and the other is Bo-Peep and her sheep themed. We're not sure yet how that will play into the rodeo, but we're sure it will be cute. Disney has released some pictures of the theme and what we really like is how the walls are very similar to the walls in the queue at Slinky Dog Dash, where it looks like Andy has drawn with crayon and used stickers to decorate the set.

As mentioned before, we know the dining experience will be table service. We now also know that food will be served family-style. This is similar to Ohana at the Polynesian, Liberty Tree Tavern at the Magic Kingdom, or Garden Grill at EPCOT. And, of course, it's BBQ. We'll talk about menu details in a moment, but before we do, you might want to go get a snack because I certainly needed to when writing this. It all looks so yummy!

Starters

  • Prospector's Homemade Cheddar Biscuits with Sweet Pepper Jelly

  • Tomato Salad

  • Rex's Romaine and Kale Salad

  • Watermelon Salad with mint sprigs

Mains

We could also fairly refer to the mains at this place as the meats. But, in Disney fashion, you could opt for plant-based options upon request. First, here's the meats you'll get:

  • Evil Dr Smoked Ribs (smoked at an on-site smokehouse)

  • Buttercup's Beef Brisket

  • There's a Sausage in My Boot spiced pork sausage

  • BBQ Chicken - With Style (brined for 48 hours, then smoked)

For plant-based options, upon request, you can get:

  • Smoked Cauliflower - with harissa and walnut gremolata

  • Oven-roasted "bratwurst" - which we assume is a plant based meat

  • Impossible "Rib Chop" - roasted and skewered on a sugar cane "bone"

All mains will be served with sweet, traditional, and spicy BBQ sauces.

Sides

Oh no, friends, we're not done here. No one leaves hungry. For sides, your table will get to choose 4 from the following list:

  • The Married Spuds - Potato barrels drizzled with green goddess dressing, cheese sauce, and seasoned BBQ spices

  • Force Field Fried Pickles

  • Slinky Doooooooooog Mac & Cheese

  • Buckin’ Baked Beans (no meat)

  • Cowpoke Corn on the Cob - with a chili-lime spice blend, cilantro, cotija cheese, and lime juice

  • Mean Old Potato Salad

  • Veggie Slaw

  • Campfire-roasted Vegetables

Desserts

For desserts, guests will get to choose from a selection of the below desserts for the table. Each dessert appears to be individual (either in a mason jar or a cupcake liner), so we assume this time, each person gets to choose for themselves.

  • Cupcake à la Forky- a chocolate cupcake with a chocolate ganache center, velvety graham cracker buttercream, and a sugar cookie

  • Lemon and Blueberry Cheesecake

  • Billy’s Chocolate Silk Pie

  • Goat’s Apple Pie

  • Gruff’s Peach-Strawberry Pie

Drinks and Draaaaaanks

There will be a selection of both adult specialty beverages and non-alcoholic beverages. For adult beverages, you can look forward to:

  • Snake Eye Margarita - featuring watermelon, smoke, and a bit of spice

  • Rum Punch - Rum punch with vibrant flavors of passion fruit and pineapple finished with a smoky spiced garnish

  • Chocolate with a Grown-up Twist -A blend of chocolate rum, horchata liqueur, cocoa, and flavors of toasted marshmallow

  • Frozen Peanut Butter & Jelly - A fun frozen twist on the classic peanut butter & jelly featuring peanut butter whiskey

  • Whiskey Lemonade- Strawberry lemonade made with Tennessee whiskey and Italian bitter aperitif

  • The Rodeo Mule - vodka and ginger beer

  • A selection of beer, hard cider, and wines by the glass

Non-alcoholic treats include:

  • Molly’s Frozen Iced Tea - A frosty concoction with iced tea and citrus flavors

  • Frozen Cocoa -A frozen blend of cocoa and vanilla topped with miniature marshmallows

  • Partysaurus Rex- Strawberry lemonade is even more fun when you garnish it with gummy worms!

Aren't you glad you grabbed that snack?

Now, we don't know yet when reservations will become available, or even how they will work or how popular Disney foresees this dining location being. Disney Hollywood Studios does have a few table service restaurants that compete with the demographic a bit where it's a fun experience and nothing too fancy. We're thinking specifically of The Sci-Fi Dine In Theater and the 50s Prime Time Cafe, which both appeal to nostalgic adults and children alike. Does this fill the gap and move Disney Hollywood Studios to a dining destination?

One thing we love about seeing this menu and the way it will be served family-style, is that it takes me back to my family's one and only (so far) rodeo experience in Cody, Wyoming. Before the rodeo, we went to a dinner show at Cody Cattle Company. The menu was very similar to this. It was a good time with downright good food, and I'd be game to re-create that experience at Walt Disney World next time I'm there.

Are you excited for the Roundup Rodeo BBQ? What kind of restaurant do you think Disney Hollywood Studios needs next? Tell us about it on our Facebook page where you can follow us to see when new blogs are posted each week. Until next time...
