Happy Birthday, Animal Kingdom!

Did you know Earth Day is also Animal Kingdom theme park's birthday? That's right, the park opened on April 22, 1998. Since Animal Kingdom is also my favorite park and my home park, I always like to celebrate this day.

This year, we decided to put together an infographic about Walt Disney World's conservation efforts. While this encompasses ALL of Walt Disney World, not just Animal Kingdom, we like to think that Disney's Animal Kingdom serves both as a jumpstart and a constant reminder to Disney of these efforts. The whole park is themed around conservation after all.

One of the reasons we love going to Walt Disney World is because it's a choice in terms of our values that we can feel good about. May this infographic make you feel good too about Disney's conservation efforts!

Infographic displays facts about Walt Disney World's conversation. $125 million in conservation funds since 1995. 315 million acres protected globally since 1995. 1,000 species of animals protected. Zero net carbon emission goal by 2030. Zero waste to landfills from Disney parks by 2030. Disney works to restore critically endangered species like the Sumatran Tiger. 500 in the world, 5 at Animal Kingdom, 2 of which were born there. Guam Kingfisher - 150 in the world, 40 of which hatched at Disney's Animal Kingdom. Disney has 8.000 acres of protected land on property which will never be developed, and 270 acres of solar panels, which are enough to supply 2 theme parks. 100% of seafood served at Walt Disney world is sustainable. Disney reuses cooking oil from restaurants to fuel the steam trains and riverboat. Disney is moving toward compostable products, which is why they serve paper straws. 30 tons of the fruit and vegetables served at Walt Disney World are grown in their very own Land pavilion at EPCOT.
