Disney at a Distance: Liberty Square

Every week during the COVID-19 crisis in the United States, we are posting a blog that will take you to one specific land of the Walt Disney World Theme Parks. You will enjoy the sights and sounds of Walt Disney World, and if you'd like, you can also add "magical extras" in the form of recipes and scents.

This week, we are going back in time to Liberty Square.

Some optional things you can do to enhance your experience:

  • Make some smoked turkey legs

  • Or make up any of these recipes served at Liberty Tree Tavern

  • Burn some cinnamon or pine scented candles to re-create that smell in Ye Olde Christmas Shop - heck, even put up some decorations if that's your thing!

As you enter Liberty Square from Frontierland, you see the river boat floating by. Perhaps you'd like to take a ride on it before exploring the rest of the land.

More toward the heart of the square, you begin to hear the area music.

Hear ye! Hear ye! Something is happening! It's a showing of Great Moments in History with the Muppets!

If that has you feeling patriotic, maybe it's time to visit the Hall of Presidents. Lately, no other attraction in the Magic Kingdom has been quite so controversial (aside from maybe Stitch's Great Escape, amIright?) but it is one of the original attractions, so I'm going to just leave this video here. In the interest of not making the blog political, I am posting the current version of the ride, just like I try to do with every other ride, so if you feel like hearing from presidents of past and present, have a seat and enjoy... the Presidents of the United States:

As you continue through Liberty Square toward Fantasyland, something about the air seems to change. The trees are withered, a fog seems to have descended, the music turned eerie. You must be approaching the Haunted Mansion.

Do you dare take a ride with a hitchhiking ghost?

Now you (and your hitchhiking ghost?) can either proceed to Fantasyland or take a relaxing stroll once more through Liberty Square and learn some more facts about the land before leaving. Because I'm a fan of this video, I'm going to post a walk through of the land here.

That's it for this week's adventure in Liberty Square. Next week, we move on to Fantasyland, the place where dreams come true and everything smells like cotton candy.

When we finish our time in the Magic Kingdom, where would you like us to adventure to next? Should we park hop more? Should we go to random lands rather than lands right next to each other? Let us know what you think and what you'd like to see next. Until next time, be safe, stay home, and we'll see you real soon.
