Disney at a Distance: Morning at Main Street USA

To help you get your Disney fix, we're posting a new virtual Disney experience every week until our national COVID-19 crisis has abated.

This week, we're arriving at the Magic Kingdom at park opening and walking down Main Street USA.

Optional items to enhance this experience at home:

-Waffle mix (make waffles) or a waffle scented candle or wax melt (for smelling and/or eating)

-Hot dogs with relish and mustard - grill these up ahead of time too to get a real Casey's Corner vibe going (for smelling and/or eating)

-Popcorn, freshly popped (for smelling and/or eating)

-A helium balloon (if you have one, just hold it and feel like a kid)

To All Who Come to This Happy Place, Welcome!

You're so lucky, you came in time to hear the Magic Kingdom opening announcement:

And you knew to wait outside the turnstiles in front of the train station for a perfect view of the Magic Kingdom opening show at the train station:

You make your way through the entrance plaza and under the train station. At first, all you hear is the echo of the crowd around you, but then the scene in front of you begins to open up. Blue skies, pink pavement, and the gorgeous Cinderella castle sparkling in the Florida sunshine.

The area music kicks in:

The pavement is clean and wet as if there was just a fresh rain. The citizens of Main Street are standing outside their shops waving at you with Mickey hands.

You pass the popcorn cart. Why does popcorn always smell so good at the Magic Kingdom?

Who is this coming down the trolley tracks? It's the Dapper Dans!

They stop to put on a show outside the Emporium:

You hear piano music up ahead along with that heavenly smell of All American Hot Dogs. It's the Casey's Corner pianist!

As you leave that side of the street, you smell the heavenly smell of fresh baked waffle cones coming from the ice cream parlor. Is it time for some ice cream?

You dodge the balloon vendors and Photopass photographers in the middle of the street and finally get your chance to take a picture at the Partners statue. Are the partners Walt and Mickey? Or is Walt actually waving at something or should we say someone at the other end of the street by the flagpole?

Thank goodness, you made it to the Castle just in time for the rope drop!

Are you going with the crowds to Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, Space Mountain, or the twin mountains of Splash and Thunder? Or are you going to linger a while, people watch, and listen to that Main Street USA music some more?

Next week, we're heading to Adventure Land because those avoiding the crowds go left! Until then...
