What We Know About Star Wars Galaxy's Edge Opening Day at WDW

The possibly most anticipated land in Disney Hollywood Studios history opened yesterday and here's what we know.

The park opened at 6 a.m. and thousands were in line as early as 4:45 a.m. to get in and experience Batuu (which, by the way, made for amazing pre-dawn twilight and sunrise pictures).

The two most popular activities were the droid shop and creating a custom lightsaber. While both costly, these sold out within minutes of park opening.

The line for Smuggler's Run (aka the Millennium Falcon ride) was at 300 minutes early in the day. Yes, that's FIVE HOURS. Interestingly, though, this line dwindled as the evening approached down to just a reasonable 80 minutes which was actually less than Avatar: Flight of Passage's wait of 85 minutes the same day. Could it be the folks that were in line at 4:45 a.m. had tired out? Could it be Disney's warnings about crowds actually resulted in scaring people away?

Or, could it be hurricane Dorian, which is set to make landfall in Florida Monday as a category 4 hurricane, and which may impact the Orlando area into Tuesday?

It's anybody's guess. Despite the strange crowd patterns, or perhaps because of them, Disney quietly put in place a virtual queuing system for guests of resort hotels, details of which was distributed via pamphlets. One can use MyDisneyExperience to reserve a time to enter the land, something like a Fastpass, except for the entire land. Because it's a temporary system, details are still somewhat vague, but the same system was instituted at Disneyland.

Are you headed to Batuu? Tell us about it in the comments or on our Facebook page. And for real this time, see you next week!
