Big Kids at Disney
This post is all about adults, or as Disney likes to call them "children of all ages". A lot of people have the misconception that you must be a kid or have a kid in order to enjoy at vacation to Walt Disney World. Or that there is nothing at Walt Disney World that would appeal to adults.
My mission today is to set those folks straight!
The truth is, Walt Disney World has an extremely broad range of attractions, activities, entertainment, and dining and everyone can find something to enjoy. In fact, there are some things at Walt Disney World that you need to be an adult to enjoy. So let me show you a side of Disney by listing some of the most decadent adult-worthy things you can find at Walt Disney World.
Dueling Pianos
At a bar called Jellyrolls at Disney's Boardwalk Resort, you will find dueling pianos every night. They will play requests, and specialize in songs from the 70s, 80s, and 90s. Each night, there is also a drink special served in a red plastic cup to help you relive your bygone youth.
Victoria and Alberts
Ready for the most decadent meal you've ever had? Get an ADR at Victoria and Alberts, Florida's only AAA 5 Diamond Award winning restaurant, which is conveniently located on the monorail loop at Disney's Grand Floridian.
For an even more decadent treat, book the Chef's Table where the chef will serve up a champagne toast followed by 11 courses including things like caviar and kobe beef. Is it pricey? Yes. Is it for the kids? No.
While Victoria and Alberts may be the most awarded of them, there are several very upscale restaurants on Disney property. Look into Tiffins, Le Cellier, California Grill (for great views of the fireworks), and Coral Reef (for a unique underwater experience).
Drink Around World Showcase
You can always walk around World Showcase. You will always see kids around World Showcase. But the kids can't drink and you can. Anything from tequila at Cava de Tequila at the Mexico pavilion to sake at the Japan Pavilion and a nice ale at the UK pavilion.
This is even more fun during Disney's Food and Wine Festival, where you can not only sample food and wine all around World Showcase, but you can also purchase tickets to special tastings and meals.
Also, consider the "monorail bar crawl". It's easy. You ride the monorail resort loop. You get off at each resort. You have a drink. You continue to the next resort.
If a nice draaaank is your thing, there are several unique places on Disney property to enjoy one. Look into Trader Sam's at the Polynesian for an entertaining island-themed time, Dawa bar at Animal Kingdom theme park for live African music, or Victoria Falls at Disney's Animal Kingdom lodge for lovely drinks in a lovely building.
Just be warned, Disney has a strict policy against public intoxication so know your limits and drink responsibly.
Wild Africa Trek
Take a 3-hour backstage tour of Disney's Animal Kingdom safari, going into the animal habitats and having a brunch in the savanna.
There are several other tours available (for additional fees) that are all quite unique. You can see the utilidor touring the Magic Kingdom, go scuba diving at the Sea pavilion at EPCOT, or see how Disney grows so many plants on the Behind the Seeds tour at EPCOT.
Bike and Boat Rentals
At Disney resorts on the water, you can rent watercraft ranging from canoes and kayaks to pedalboats and pontoons to get out on the water and away from it all.
Although not on the water, you can also rent bikes, and at some resorts (Port Orleans and Boardwalk for example) you can rent a surrey which is a two person covered bike-thing of sorts. Trust me, it's amusing.
Golf
I'll be honest. Golf isn't really my thing. But if it's your thing, you might be surprised to know that there are four championship golf courses at Walt Disney World managed by Arnold Palmer.
Surf or Parasail
At Disney's Typhoon lagoon water park, before park opening, lessons are offered on select days in the wave pool, which just happens to be the world's largest outdoor wave pool.
Also, at resorts around Bay Lake, you can book a parasailing experience.
Get a spa treatment
There are at least two Senses spa locations on Walt Disney World property where you can get a facial, massage, or other spa services.
Have Afternoon Tea
At the Garden View Tea Room at the Grand Floridian resort, you can enjoy a tea offering ranging from simple tea and scones to more elaborate tea, champagne, and tea trays.
Ride a Horse
At the Tri Circle D Ranch at Fort Wilderness, you can take a horseride through a rustic part of the property.
Go Fish
You can purchase an excursion to go bass fishing year round at Walt Disney World.
Dine with an Imagineer
At the Hollywood Brown Derby restaurant at Disney Hollywood Studios or at Citrico's at Disney's Grand Floridian, you can have a 4-course meal with an Imagineer. You know, the people behind the magic. Maybe your conversation can rekindle that "how to think like a kid" feeling while you still can enjoy adult benefits.
Ride a Rugged Segway
It's like a segway with big ATV tires that you can ride through "backcountry" trails at Disney's Fort Wilderness resort.
Have a Dessert Party
The only question is: In the park or on a boat? You can enjoy fireworks while also feasting on desserts either at a designated area in the park or on a boat outside the park.
Go Shopping
Walt Disney World has some great shopping opportunities. From shops at resorts on the monorail loop (looking at YOU, Basin store at the Grand Floridian), to the large shopping complex at Disney Springs, if you enjoy shopping, you can definitely find enough to keep you amused.
That's quite the list and I feel we didn't even scratch the surface. To be honest, I'm an adult and I haven't done half the things on the above list, and I still find plenty to entertain me. From live entertainment in the park to, let's be honest, riding the attractions, I've never been bored. In fact, there's just too much to do to get it all done.
And don't forget, while Disney isn't designed to be only enjoyable for children, adults can enjoy the same things kids enjoy. That's why it's truly a place for "children of all ages".
I hope you enjoy this post. Please consider sharing our page with a friend and we'll see you next week!
