Walt Disney World - Magic out of Mundane

One of the things I love about Walt Disney World is the way the Imagineers find to make "magic out of mundane". Consider a trash can, for example. Did you know that the trash cans at Walt Disney World are themed to the resorts, the parks, and even the part of the park you are in? Or a bathroom sign... Did you ever notice how these too are themed?

The story is in center stage at Walt Disney World, and these little details serve to pull that story together, and because of that, they are one of my favorite photo subjects. I can find a photo of Cinderella's Castle anywhere, but to really remember my vacation, to remember how Pandora made me feel, or how immersed I was, I take pictures of these little details.

So, yes, I'm the dork taking photos of trash cans and bathroom signs.

So, today's post is...

Well, yes. A bunch of restroom signs and trash cans.

But the Disney geek in me definitely geeks out when I see them, and I hope some of you feel the same!

Let's start with the cutest baby changing table sign in Harambe at Disney's Animal Kingdom:

Moving on to another part of Animal Kingdom, this trash can in Asia is a little bit beat up but I love how it has the symbol of Disney's Asia on it:

Park symbols are pretty common for trash cans. This one near the Odyssey Restaurant Building at EPCOT has the symbol of World Showcase.

Meanwhile in Pandora, the trash cans look like they are military issue trash cans that made the trek through space to base. Dirty? Entirely imaginary.

This restroom has its own fan following. Located in the Magic Kingdom, can you guess what it is?

It's the "Rapunzel's Tower" bathroom in New Fantasyland at the Magic Kingdom. Yes, this tower is home to a restroom (and it's just the most beautiful restroom at the Magic Kingdom!).

I love the dignified nature of Main Street USA where I can still be referred to as a "Lady".

You will find an Evacuation Route map on the door of any room at any resort. But only at Disney will Jiminy Cricket explain the rules to you. As it should be.

Pandora is so amazingly themed, this is a bathroom sign.

And this is the bunker-like bathroom. Don't worry, it's comfy inside. And no, I could not figure out how to get up those stairs, but given the deck has no, uh, deck, I doubt I could try without a Cast Member yelling at me. Safety first!

I hope you enjoy these details like I do. This is just a smattering of examples. Do any of you do this too? Share your stories in the comments. And if you like this page, like us on Facebook so you can see when we publish new posts. See you next week!
