12 Unique Things to Eat at Walt Disney World

It's not just theme park food at Walt Disney World. There is, of course, theme park food and food to feed all the masses, but Walt Disney World, being a world destination, also has quite the expansive list of options for virtually any sort of food you are looking for. In fact, it's a foodie's dream.

Some of these items are unique for their presentation, others for the full experience you get, and still others because they are not foods as commonly tried by Americans. There are some real food gems, especially, in my opinion, around World Showcase in EPCOT, at Disney's Animal Kingdom and Animal Kingdom Lodge, and at resorts around the monorail loop.

I can't possibly list all of the unique food to try at Disney here, but I hope I can list enough to help you see that it's way more than just theme park food.

1. The Grey Stuff

"Try the grey stuff. It's delicious!" and it is. The grey stuff is not necessarily something incredibly unusual. What IS unusual is hearing the words come out of your own mouth when you order it and being able to boast the bragging rights and say it was indeed delicious.

You can find it at Be Our Guest restaurant at Magic Kingdom. It's a cupcake with grey frosting.

2. Night Blossom

This is a slushy which can be served with alcohol or without. Either way it has refreshing melon flavors and bursting boba at the bottom. It's like slushy meets boba tea. It's truly unique and truly delicious.

You can find it at Pongu Pongu in Pandora at the Animal Kingdom.

3. Lefou's Brew

Keeping with our slushy theme, we should also mention Lefou's Brew, which is an apple cider with marshmallow flavored slushy-like concoction.

You can find this at Gaston's Tavern at the Magic Kingdom.

4. Indian Bread Service

Make sure to order all the sauces. You will get delightfully warm naan bread with a smorgasbord of sauces. If you've never had naan before, you really should try it.

You can find this at Sanaa at Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge

5. Blue Bantha

Definitely not the only thing on this list from this location, the blue bantha is a drink you can only catch in the morning. It's blue milk with a cookie on top, basically, but when we say blue milk, we don't mean milk in the cow sense, but rather milk in the Star Wars sense. We know it's non-dairy. And we know it's sweet. And that's about all we know.

You can find this in the mornings at Oga's Cantina in Galaxy's Edge, Disney Hollywood Studios.

6. Fuzzy Tauntaun

For a drink later in the day that is crazy unique, try a fuzzy tauntaun. It's an alcoholic drink with a peach flavor, but it's topped with foam made from a szechuan flower which apparently has pain killing properties (yes, this is a real thing, not a Disney story). And drinking it makes your lips numb!

You can also find this at Oga's Cantina.

7. Omakase Tasting

An Omakase tasting is one where you let the chef choose your order. At this particular restaurant, you can be sure that the food you eat will be chosen carefully not just for taste, but for artful presentation. Enjoy a full tasting menu with an optional sake pairing, and finished with a traditional Japanese tea ceremony. Expect sushi, wagyu bone marrow, wagyu beef, Japanese water cake, and matcha tea.

Find it at Takumi Tei in the Japan pavilion at EPCOT. Reservations required.

8. Bobotie

It's an African dish you've probably never heard of, but that you'll probably love if you love a nice egg casserole with beef in it. And because of where this can be found, you get to try all sorts of other African foods along with it, like jolof rice, carrot-ginger soup, and oxtail soup, if you want to. It's all found at a buffet of over 75 African dishes. There's bound to be something for everyone.

Find this buffet at Boma at Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge.

9. Tonga Toast

This is like two slices of French toasted Texas toast but with perfectly caramelized slices of bananas in between. I know it sounds like french toast with bananas, but I swear, it's even better than that. It's got a caramel-tropical flavor and it's oh so good.

Find it at the Polynesian Village Resort at Capt. Cook's and Kona Cafe.

10. Beignets

Wonderful squares of puffy fried pastry with powdered sugar on top. So good.

Find it at Port Orleans French Quarter.

11. Lobster poutine

Are you ready for this insanity? Start with poutine - french fries smothered in gravy and cheese. Then add lobster meat and lobster sauce.

Find this beast at Le Cellier at the Canada pavilion in EPCOT.

12. Proper afternoon tea

Tea (of course), finger sandwiches, scones with clotted cream, adorable pastries, perhaps a cheese and fruit plate, perhaps champagne, perhaps go all out and add some smoked sturgeon. Whatever your tea fantasies are, this place will cater to them.

This tea experience can be found and enjoyed (even with children) at the Garden View Tea Room at the Grand Floridian Resort.

Man, now I'm hungry! What interesting foods have you tried at Walt Disney World? Or if you've never been, what do you look forward to trying? Leave us a comment or follow our Facebook page. Until next time...
